Glen Murray National Green Party Leader Candidate Good news in the race to replace Elizabeth May as national leader of the Green Party of Canada. Glen Murray former Winnipeg Mayor and Ontario MPP Glen Murray has entered the race to replace her. In this introductory comments entering into the race he once again talked about his passion for high speed rail to be built in Canada. Supporters of high speed rail in Canada will remember in 2014 then Ontario Transportation Minister Glen Murray was part of  the then Liberal government that promoted the Toronto-Kitchener-London high-speed rail line. Let us hope that Glen can win the leadership race for the Greens and restore a national voice for high speed trains in Canada.

Green Party Canada Promotes High Speed Rail and VIA Rail Act The Green Party have released their election platform titled, "Honest. Ethical. Caring. Leadership". Included in the document is a pledge to: Enact the Via Rail Act to implement a passenger rail transportation policy. Invest $600 million in 2020-21, rising to $720 million by 2023 to develop regional rail networks and strengthen rail connections between regions." (OTTAWA) May 1, 2017 – Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands), and Mike Schreiner, Leader of the Green Party of Ontario, are calling for joint federal-provincial funding for high speed rail linking Windsor to Montreal. “We must invest in our rail service, both passenger and freight,” Ms. May said. “Study after study shows that high speed rail service on the Windsor-Quebec City corridor is good for our economy and environment. The Green Party of Canada has started a campaign to get more funding for VIA Rail. As the Harper government continues to cut VIA Rail services across Canada, VIA's very survival is at risk. To the credit of the Green Party their support for passenger rail renewal has been consistent over the years. Elizabeth May travelled by train on her Whistle Stop Tour in 2008. In the last federal election the Green Party announced their support for high speed rail in a VIDEO . Now they have an on-line petition " Get back on Track " you can sign to support renewal of passenger rail.
