Transpod - Financial Pressures Threaten Droux France Test Track

Transpod Boondoogle Continues  test track location photo credit - Jean-Louis Mercier le populaire, france  It is time to do an update on the Canadian based company, Transpod, that is developing a hyperloop vehicle capable of going 1000 km/h. You can read previous posts on our High Speed Rail Canada website to give you background on the subject.. As you may recall Transpod had secured US$550 million in funding from a Chinese government owned company,China-East Resources Import & Export Company in cooperation with UK-based Broughton Capital Group. They had proposed to build a fully functional line between Edmonton-Calgary. In 2025 they will have a fully functional full scale vehicle testing on a test track there. Cost of the line is $23 billion. They are even discussing a Toronto-Montreal line. Transpod had stated in 2019 they were building a test track in Droux France and would begin testing in 2020. In 2022, nothing was built. In July 2022, Transpod unveiled their ⅓ size ...

Transpod - The $23 Billion Pipe Dream

Transpod Test Track - September 2022 In a previous article I have talked about three failed hyperloop systems. Elon Musk’s test track is now parking lot, Hyperloop Transportation Technologies and Virgin Hyperloop. We will now discuss Transpod, a Canadian based company with its own version of a hyperloop capable of going 1000 km/hr. Transpod had secured US$550 million in funding from a Chinese government owned company,China-East Resources Import & Export Company in cooperation with UK-based Broughton Capital Group. They are proposing to build a fully functional line between Edmonton-Calgary. In 2025 they will have a fully functional full scale vehicle testing on a test track there. Cost of the line is $23 billion. They are even discussing a Toronto-Montreal line. But with any unproven technology questions should be asked. DEADLINES MISSED Transpod Press Release, January 22, 2019 stated- They secured a building permit in 2018 for a test track and facility with Hyperloop Limoges to in...

Hyperloop Nine Years Later and the Debacle Continues

Elon Musk Had An Idea Elon Musk in 2013 released his white paper for his latest technology titled "Hyperloop." Red flags should have been raised immediately has Elon stated he would not be developing the technology himself. He did host some student competitions but even those have been cancelled. Elon Musk student hyperloop competition in 2017 - credit Engadget High Speed Rail Canada released in 2020 a paper critical of the Hyperloop technology. It can be viewed here .  Some of the still pertinent safety issues were outlined including: Security Issues Sudden Decompression Thermal Expansion Pressure Emergency Exits G-Force and Illness Passenger Capacity Hyperloop Technology Needed That Does Not Exist Including: Hyperloop High Speed Switches, Airlock Systems, Turbomolecular Pumps  Let us look at the two big players today in the hyperloop industry and see how they are progressing. Hyperloop Transportation Technologies Started in 2013, Hyperloop  Transportation Technologies ...

Deconstructing the Hype in Hyperloop

Why Hyperloop is still a deadly scientific fantasy Conceptual image of inside a hyperloop pod. Can you say claustrophobic! With three test tracks and a empty passenger pod built the hyperloop hyperbole is building. What are the real dangers and challenges with the hyperloop theory? I like the simple definition of Hyperloop in RationalWiki - " It involves a tube evacuated to very low pressure in which pods are propelled forward, using magnets, at speeds in excess of 1000 km/h. In essence it is a pneumatic tube on steroids or a magnetically levitated train inside a vacuum tube." The technology currently does not exist except as a theoretical concept. In Canada, Transport Canada has begun a study to evaluate hyperloop. The fact is over 22 studies have been done on high speed rail in this country and we still have no high speed trains although it is a proven safe technology for over a half a century. So why spend taxpayers money on looking at hyperloop?  There ...

HYPERLOOP, MAGLINE AND THE JETSONS

We have serious passenger rail problems in Canada and the USA. We are almost half a century behind in the development of modern high speed trains. To his credit, President Obama realized this problem and in 2009 announced his vision for modernizing the outdated U.S. passenger rail system. Perhaps they should have used the phrase "higher speed rail" instead of high speed rail, since most money would go to upgrading existing rail infrastructure. The President knew the economic, social, and environmental benefits that could happen. While progress has definitely been made, the current political quagmire of American politics has made acceptance and implementation of his plan difficult. The national passenger rail carrier Amtrak is carrying record ridership. In June 2013 more people rode Amtrack that month than in its history: 2.9 million people. Its signature high speed train the Acela Express has done very well. In Canada the situation is very grave for the future of a...
