Magnovate - Maglev for the Toronto Zoo - Part II Engineering

This is our second part in a series of the Magnovate Company Maglev that has been approved to be put into the Toronto Zoo. The implementation of the Maglev at the Zoo will show to the world the potential of this technology. We will focus on the engineering benefits of the Maglev. Maglev Engineering Magline’s patented powertrain technology uses magnetic levitation (or maglev); a system of magnets to suspend and propel vehicles along a guideway. Maglev trains in Germany and Japan safely operated at speeds near 500 kph for decades, but are too expensive and lack high-speed switching capability. These existing systems long ago proved the enormous performance benefits of replacing conventional wheels-on- axles with frictionless maglev drives Levitation eliminates the pounding of steel wheels on tracks as well as friction and rolling resistance and enables high speeds and unparalleled energy efficiency with minimal wear. Maglev vehicles cost less to build and make much less noise both inside ...

VIA RAIL Canada Act Bill C-370 has been added to High Speed Rail Canada site

MP Irene Mathyssen Private Members Bill C-370 VIA RAIL Canada Act has been added to our list of previous VIA Rail Acts in our archives. To view the act CLICK HERE It is interesting to note as the size of this Bill is the smallest so far on VIA RAIL. Previously, Bill C-26 was 122 pages, Bill C-614 was 37 pages and this Bill C-640 is just 8 pages. What could it all mean? Enjoy reading the bill and we wish MP Mathyssen the best of luck with her bill.

GOOD NEWS - David Collenette to Advise on high speed rail line in Ontario

Is the Light Coming On At Via Rail? - Gauging Interest in New Line – VIA wants $3B for commuter track.

It was December 2014 when VIA Rail Chief Executive Yves Desjardins-Siciliano gave an interview with the Globe and Mail that probably made his political masters happy but rail fans and High Speed Rail Canada highly criticized the interview. Now it seems Desjardins-Siciliano is starting to realize the extent of VIA's problems. Although he still refuses to acknowledge the need for a VIA Rail Act and Regulations he has stated that the current situation with CN and CP sharing existing track does not work and dedicated track is needed. The news from Desjardins-Siciliano about the need for dedicated commuter track ($3billion) in the Toronto-Montreal corridor was released on March 12th, 2015 . It seems to have gotten limited media hits. According to Google News Alerts only the Saskatoon Phoenix picked the story up and it was largely ignored everywhere else. Perhaps the most insulting part of the article is CN's response to the problems they cause for VIA Rail. It reads, CN ...

VIA RAIL CEO Globe & Mail Interview - The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

A recent interview in the Globe and Mail outlines the vision of VIA RAIL CEO & President Mr. Desjardins-Siciliano. I will evaluate this article, highlighting both the positives and the negatives and what the VIA president should be doing. THE GOOD 1. VIA Rail President actually speaks to the public - Full credit for Mr. Desjardins-Siciliano for not hiding in his office and for actually going out to sell his vision of what VIA Rail should be. 2.VIA Rail focusing on getting people out of their cars - For decades VIA senior management were delusional in their priorities in thinking VIA Rail could compete with the airline industry and that they were competing for the same customer. It is refreshing to see VIA realize that they should be getting people to switch from their driving their autos to taking the train. 3.VIA needs their own dedicated track - It doesn't take rocket scientist to see that this is necessary, but it is still good to see the CEO saying it is a priorit...

Via Rail eyeing private capital to build its own dedicated rail lines

Just two days ago we posted an article about VIA Rail CEO in Italy talking high speed rail partnerships now the Financial Post has a similar article. Here is the problem nobody will partner with VIA unless the federal government is committing some substantial funding also. The good news is VIA is trying to do something! http://business.financialpost.com/2014/12/04/via-rail-eyeing-private-capital-to-build-its-own-dedicated-rail-lines/

High-speed rail a solution

BY ALAN CORMIER re: Toronto Star Editorial Pickering: Remember Mirabel? Letter June 22 We are told that Toronto will be short of airport capacity in the near future and that a second major airport is needed in Pickering. Not that many years ago, major airport renovations and expansions were carried out in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal at the cost of billions of dollars. Analysts with a broad vision said at the time that nearly one-third of all flights at these three airports were indeed travelling between these three cities only and that a high-speed rail corridor serving these three cities would cancel the need for the airport expansions and the dollars needed for expansion would be sufficient to pay for the high-speed rail. Alas, this was not to be, and the airport expansions went ahead. Looking at the arrivals/departure boards at the three airports these days suggests still that a high-speed rail service would significantly reduce the airport capacity needs. It is time for Transp...
