Ottawa to be stop on new high-speed rail line

CTV report by Dylan Dyson on the proposed high-speed rail line Toronto-Ottawa-Quebec.

High-Speed Rail in Canada: The Time Has Come

Is the Wait for High-Speed Rail in Canada Finally Over! Will the decades of false hopes finally be over, and we finally see high-speed rail in Canada? Twenty-five studies and 40 years of federal government politicians have come and gone, and no action has been taken. I remember in 2009 when I went to Ottawa to speak at the Canadian Government Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure, and Communities hearings on high-speed rail in Canada. I also went to Alberta to promote the Edmonton-Calgary high-speed rail proposal. Sadly, the events of 2009 did not differ from those before and after. Now, perhaps the time has come for high-speed rail in our country. I admit I was more than skeptical about this plan when former VIA Rail CEO Yves Desjardins-Siciliano, now a Siemens Canada employee, first promoted the idea of high-frequency trains at traditional speeds. Desjardins-Siciliano continues to promote their Venture trains for the proposed high-frequency rail line, regardless of the real...

Spending more than four hours on a train to travel between the metropolis and the Queen City, as currently planned by the TGF, "is far too long" to encourage the population to turn their backs on the car or the aircraft," says Michael Keroullé, President of Alstom Americas. Toronto's Forgotten Maglev Test Track - 1974 Go Urban Construction Photos

Rare Construction Photos from Go Urban  Maglev Test Track at Toronto Exhibition Grounds 1974 All eyes were on Ontario in 1973-74 as German firm Krauss-Maffeir had been awarded a $16 million contract by the government of Ontario to build an experimental single-track. Toronto-Montreal vs Seville-Madrid Passenger Rail Lines Comparison

Toronto-Montreal vs Seville-Madrid Passenger Rail Lines Comparison After a recent visit to Portugal and Spain, and a lot of reflection, I am even more committed to advocate for a modern passenger rail system in Canada. Currently VIA Rail has a $6 billion dollar plan to have a rail corridor from Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal on a largely abandoned rail corridor. High Speed Rail Canada has exposed the major flaws in the plan in previous articles. I do believe it is good to give a factual example of comparing the Seville to Madrid High Speed Line with the current and future proposed VIA Rail line Toronto to Montreal. Populations The population of Toronto is 2,731,571 (source: Statistics Canada).  The wider Greater Toronto Area (GTA) population was 6,417,516 at the time of the most recent (2016) census. The population of Montreal is 1,704,694. The population of the wider Montreal metropolitan area is 4,098,927 (2016 data). Madrid has almost 3.2 million inhabitants ...

It is Time to Fund High Speed Rail in Ontario and Quebec

During this federal election, an important election issue is the funding of high-speed rail. High-speed rail is a train system where the trains can reach speeds between 200 m.p.h. to 400 m.p.h. comparison, regular trains usually go at a speed of 160 m.p.h. or less. There are several places that high-speed rail would be an effective transportation option in Canada. One of the most studied locations is the Windsor to Quebec City corridor. The line would include stops in Kitchener and Toronto. This corridor includes more than 50 per cent of the Canadian population. High speed rail is an attractive option that should be at least partially funded by the federal government, for several reasons. One attractive feature of high-speed rail is that it is a significantly cleaner form of transportation than automobiles or airplanes. Of course, having a cleaner transportation alternative isn't enough. You need a critical mass of people using high-speed rail in lieu of cars or planes to see the ...
