Spending more than four hours on a train to travel between the metropolis and the Queen City, as currently planned by the TGF, "is far too long" to encourage the population to turn their backs on the car or the aircraft," says Michael Keroullé, President of Alstom Americas. High Speed Monorail Montreal to Quebec City Faded Dreams

There has been 65 years worth of studies and there still is no monorail in Canada operating as part of public transit system.  TrensQuébec High Speed Monorail Conceptual Design Montreal to Quebec City High Speed Monorail Proposal - 2008 - Present Quebec physicist Dr. Pierre Couture spent most of his career working at Hydro-Québec, Between 1982 and 1995, working with a small budget, the team developed an electric-powered motor-wheel. Mr. Couture had developed a high speed rail suspended monorail based on this technology. A group formed with Jean-Pierre Marchand, director TrensQuébec , and Pierre Langlois, physicist and specialist in sustainable mobility to promote this technology.  The idea was to run a high speed suspended monorail from Montreal to Quebec-City and other locations. It could run at 250 km/h.

Toronto-Montreal vs Seville-Madrid Passenger Rail Lines Comparison

Toronto-Montreal vs Seville-Madrid Passenger Rail Lines Comparison After a recent visit to Portugal and Spain, and a lot of reflection, I am even more committed to advocate for a modern passenger rail system in Canada. Currently VIA Rail has a $6 billion dollar plan to have a rail corridor from Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal on a largely abandoned rail corridor. High Speed Rail Canada has exposed the major flaws in the plan in previous articles. I do believe it is good to give a factual example of comparing the Seville to Madrid High Speed Line with the current and future proposed VIA Rail line Toronto to Montreal. Populations The population of Toronto is 2,731,571 (source: Statistics Canada).  The wider Greater Toronto Area (GTA) population was 6,417,516 at the time of the most recent (2016) census. The population of Montreal is 1,704,694. The population of the wider Montreal metropolitan area is 4,098,927 (2016 data). Madrid has almost 3.2 million inhabitants ...

Lac Mégantic Derailment - Never Again

It is hard to imagine how the tragedy in Lac Mégantic could have happened. A comprehensive investigation will reveal that it was not only the human errors at the time of the incident that caused the accident. A systematic failure in the safety program at the Montreal, Maine & Atlantic Railway occurred. Reading the Globe and Mail article on their reporting of the accident suggested many questions needed to be asked. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/the-equation-of-a-disaster-what-went-wrong-in-lac-megantic/article13214911/ Questions regarding training, competency, inadequate safe work procedures, maintenance standards of locomotives, staffing policies will be asked. What I hope will happen from this tragedy is that regulations will be put in place, and enforced, to ensure railway companies make safety a priority in how they do their business.
