Eastern Ontario Route along Highway 401 and Stations Business Case and Preliminary Design by Michael Schabas and Andrew Antinucci Available

Highway #401 high-speed rail route

Alternative to ALTO high-speed rail route

The mandate of High Speed Rail Canada has been to ensure all studies, businesses cases are available to the public. Michael Schabas and Andrew Antinucci completed the document for Kingston Accommodation Partners. Michael was part of the consortium that did not win the bid to work on the ALTO project.

His latest work highlights a route closer to Highway #401. We have added this to our Ontario-Quebec studies page. Here is the LINK.

  1. I support this third alternative because it promises to bring the benefits of efficient rail service while avoiding most of the harms, in particular environment degradation and disruption of rural farms and communities, and especially the Frontenac Arch UNESCO Biosphere. Please note that I did not support the previous proposed routes because rural towns and farmers were expected to bear the brunt of the downsides and receive non of the benefits, and especially because of disruptions of significant wetlands and the Frontenac Arch. This proposal show due care for these issues.
